Important information for Victorian rental providers
Rental properties must meet applicable minimum standards before being advertised or offered for rent, and before a renter moves in. From 13 October 2026, rental providers and agents must retain records showing compliance. New energy-efficiency standards begin to phase in from 1 March 2027.
Minimum standards assessments identify potential issues; specialist electrical, structural or other assessments and repairs may require appropriately qualified tradespeople. An inspection alone does not guarantee legal compliance.
